Project Update - Togo, West Africa
New Hospital Construction Survey Trip September 2007
It was an amazing blessing to be able to visit the ABWE hospital in the southern part of Togo! Over the 25 years that it has been operating, literally thousands of people have heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 40+ churches have been established as a result of the efforts of the staff and supporting church-planting missionaries there. It was absolutely incredible and humbling to be able to visit two of those churches and worship with the Togolese believers there, the true fruit of the labor!
We spent most of our time at or around the hospital in the south, which is the model for the one that we are planning to build in the north. Our Project Office team (3 engineers including myself plus 1 architect) also met with the current hospital staff there to review the plans for constructing the new one in the north. Obviously their input is critical!
It took us a day-and-a-half of travel (much of it over quite bumpy “roads”) to get to the new hospital location in the north and meet with the government officials there. In addition to evaluating the land, we also checked out the surrounding village for logistical planning purposes such as where to store equipment, house work teams, etc...While in Togo, there were also 9 other smaller projects (3 church construction/improvement projects and 6 Christian school construction projects) that we looked at.
Since I'm always wanting to talk about the amazing things that God is doing, I also took lots of video showing the eternal impact that the hospital has made, and continues to make, for the glory of Jesus Christ. Please click here to go to the video clip page. Seeing these testimonies makes it exciting to think about how God will use the new hospital! May God continue to bless our efforts to take the Gospel to the lost and needy around the world.
